Is a surviving spouse of a deceased Veteran eligible for a VA Mortgage loan?

The unmarried surviving spouse of a Veteran who died on active duty or as the result of a service-connected disability is eligible for the VA home loan benefits.  The surviving spouse should complete this Request for Determination of Loan Guaranty Eligibility – Unmarried Surviving Spouses Form 26-1817 and send it to their local VA office or we can send it in for the surviving spouse.  Also, a surviving spouse who remarries on or after attaining age 57 and on or after December 16, 2003, may be eligible for the home loan benefit.  Children of a deceased Veteran are not eligible for VA home loan benefits.
